In this interview Viola Larsgard (b. 1909) discusses her early life in various small mining towns including Radersburg, Maryville, Basin, and Philipsburg Montana; brief recollections about the Spanish Flu Epidemic of 1918; memories of the Depression; coming to Helena to work as a waitress and later for the Masonic Home in the kitchen; work as a live-in maid and companion for several families in Helena, including Louise Marlow, widow of Thomas Marlow.

Thomas A. Marlow was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on March 9, 1861. He came to Montana and entered the employ of Broadwater and McNamara at Fort Maginnis in 1882. In 1888 he established the mercantile firm of McNamara & Marlow at Big Sandy, Montana, with Cornelius McNamara. He moved to Helena, Montana, in 1893 in connection with the liquidation of the Charles A. Broadwater estate; Broadwater was his uncle, and he was appointed trustee for Mary C. Miller, Julia C.
